The real meaning behind "Check the official website again"

Is the visa information you heard last year still correct this year? When a foreign friend asked me this, even I, a Korean, couldn't answer right away. This kind of information really changes often. ## In Your Country It may differ from country to country, but there are probably places where, once you learn the immigration system, it stays the same for a while. And when it does change, sometimes it's announced prominently on the news. So asking a friend who arrived earlier may not be far off. ## In Korea In Korea, each residence status has its own rules. When the Ministry of Justice changes the criteria, a notice is posted, and the date it takes effect can also differ by status. But word-of-mouth information and old blog posts keep circulating. That's why even Koreans say, "Check again on the official website," when it comes to government office matters. I say that too whenever visas come up. ## Where can I check? HiKorea (hikorea.go.kr) is a website for foreigners run by the Ministry of Justice. You can read stay guides and notices, and you can also submit some applications there. 1345 is the phone number of the Foreigner Information Center. Even if Korean is hard for you, you can ask questions through an interpreter. Check the supported languages and operating hours on HiKorea. Before you ask, write down your visa status (e.g., D-2) and the date your period of stay ends. That way, you'll get your answer much faster.
