Did you hear "this station" and "next station" as the same thing?

I got on the subway, but the announcements go by so fast. "This station is Gangnam, Gangnam Station." A foreign student once told me that hearing the station name twice is confusing. These announcements follow a set order, so once you know it, they're easy to catch. ## After departure: "The next station is..." Once the doors close and the train starts moving, you'll hear "The next station is ○○." 'Next' means the station that's coming up soon. When you hear the name of your stop, get ready to gather your belongings. ## Just before arrival: "This station is" When the train is almost at a station, they say, "This station is ○○, ○○ Station." 'This' means the station the train is now pulling into. They say the name twice so you don't miss it in a noisy train. You can tell just from the name you hear first, and you can confirm it once more with the word "station" that follows. ## Before the doors open: "The doors to exit are..." Right after that comes "The doors to exit are on the left." Depending on the station, the platform can be on the left or the right side of the train, so they let you know in advance. Hearing this, Korean people decide which door to stand in front of. So when the announcement ends, people crowd toward one side's doors. The tip you can use right away is simple. Just remember the name after "이번 역은" (this station is) and "left" or "right" after "내리실 문은" (the doors that will open are). If you know which side you need to get off on, you won't have to scramble at the door.
