A foreign student who went to a PC bang for the first time was startled. It's a place for playing games, yet people order ramyeon right from their seats. A little while later, a staff member brought the freshly cooked ramyeon to the seat. ## The rule: gamers don't leave their seats At a PC bang, you order food from the seat where you're sitting, too. If you order through the monitor screen or the menu, a staff member brings it to you. There are two reasons. Koreans play a lot of team games. If just one person leaves for even 5 minutes, their friends can lose. Also, many places charge by the hour, so going out to eat feels like a waste of time. So PC cafés ended up doing the restaurant's job too. And since it's good for the shop to sell food as well, they kept adding more items to the menu. ## Exception: Be careful with the broth, and it's fine if the ramen gets soggy Hot broth next to your keyboard would be pretty risky, right? That's why many people choose foods that are easy to eat with one hand. Things like fried rice, gimbap, and corn dogs. Even when they order ramen, they eat it far away from the keyboard. You can't take your hands off during a game. So even when the ramyeon arrives, we say, "Just after this round!" Sometimes it ends up getting soggy while we play. The staff know this well, too. My Korean friends happily eat even soggy ramyeon without a fuss. ## Tips You Can Use Right Away When you order, be sure to check your seat number. The payment method is different at each shop. You can just ask the staff when you place your first order.
